Earth Hour in Copenhagen

Earth Hour in Copenhagen

In Copenhagen

We went out yesterday to see the effect of the Earth Hour campaign in the heart of Copenhagen (on Rådhudspladsen). Of course we knew that the best shot we could take of people/buildings turning their lights off is from a helicopter view over the city (or from the roof of some tall building). But when we got to the square, we were surprised to see that only a few buildings shut off the lights, whereas the rest of the buildings were still consuming energy as normal.

Here is the picture of a particular building (the one with the brands on) where you can clearly see the lights went off at exactly 20:30 (except the ground floor)

And this is how the same building (slightly different angle) looks with all the lights on.

Cameras, computers, cakes and… out in the cold – Notes on Espisode #41

It’s been a hectic couple weeks putting together episodes owing to the travel plans of our team, and hopefully this is the last episode for a while that we will have to freeze ourselves in order to make! We’ll see…

Here’s a few additional comments to what was said in the episode:

Pretty much anyone who has spent time in Denmark knows is a great site for buying a computer or other hardware and software. It’s also a great place to find a camera or video – I’ve purchased no less than 3 cameras shopping through over the years, and loads of random computer supplies like external hard drives, memory cards, usb cables, and much more. Unlike many countries, as a business or individual, its very difficult to hide (consider that whenever you move, your bank is automatically informed of your address), meaning that even buying stuff online from obscure small shops with an address in another part of the country is fairly safe – they don’t really have anywhere to run, which pretty much ensures good service. I’ve never had any problems buying stuff online.

As for Lagkagehuset, perhaps the best bakery chain in Copenhagen. I hope to that someone from Lagekagehuset would like to participate in a future episode, as I think they have a great story to tell – after all, (as I noted in the episode) this is one of the relatively few businesses in Denmark that has succeeded in expanding – dramatically expanding – during what for many are tough economic times.

Arken, the museum Julie talks about, is a great museum placed in an unfortunate location. It really is a wonderful piece of architecture and they have some fantastic exhibitions out there – but it’s not the easiest place to get to from Copenhagen (you have to take the s-train, then either walk or take a bus).

I’m looking forward to our next episode, which is a special one indeed. I’ll write a bit about it once we are done filming this weekend.

Lots of Sunshine! Hopefully, It Is A Sign of Spring Coming To Denmark

Well, this post really has nothing to do with MyDenmarkTV production. But it does show the changing weather in Denmark. Almost the whole week we have had a lot of sunshine (although still cold). So, I thought I would do nothing but reach my brand new camera and take a couple of shots outside my apartment in Frederiksberg. I hope you enjoy the pictures ;)

Nice flowers on the table of our kitchen to portray spring in Denmark

Even grass looks so impressive after such a long winter

Just fish ... thought it was funny

You will definitely be seeing more of Denmark both in videos and still images. Stay tuned and be well!
